In conjunction with our tiered Minor Leagues (CAHL, NAI, NEAHL, APHL, EFHL and Hockey Calgary), Hockey Alberta has agreed to change the names of the tiers operating at the U15 and U18 divisions of play for the 2023-24 season.
To further our commitment to ensuring non-body checking options are accessible across the entire province, the former U15 and U18 Tier 4, Tier 5 and Tier 6 have been renamed to Tier 1 NBC, Tier 2 NBC and Tier 3 NBC.

Hockey Alberta and our tiered Minor Leagues implemented non-body checking at the Tier 4, 5 and 6 categories of the U15 division prior to the 2020-21 season. This was then followed by extending non-body checking to the Tiers 4, 5 and 6 categories of the U18 division for the 2022-23 season.
This change to the tiering names was implemented for the 2023 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships which saw both a U15 Tier 1 NBC and U18 Tier 1 NBC championship awarded.
Enclosed with this Memorandum is the updated 2023-24 Alberta One Standardized Tiering Grid, which includes the naming changes for the U15 and U18 divisions.
