U13 A Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships Coming to Red Deer in March

Local volunteers and families preparing to host provincial championships

(RED DEER, ALBERTA) - The 2026 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships U13 A Division will take place March 19 - 22, 2026, at Servus Arena in Red Deer. Red Deer Minor Hockey along with the Red Deer Motors U13 A Chiefs are pleased to receive the winning bid to host Alberta’s top U13 A teams, their families, and communities from all over the province.
Participating teams for the provincial championships are determined through league playoffs. Eight teams from across Alberta will compete in the four-day tournament, The Red Deer Motors U13 A Chiefs are the host team, and currently first in their division. They won their opening playoff games, and will compete for their divisional banner in a best of three game format this weekend against Medicine Hat.
The tournament is expected to bring approximately 190 athletes and hundreds of visitors to central Alberta; the event is anticipated to draw substantial regional visitor traffic and generate meaningful economic activity for the City of Red Deer, and nearby communities.
“We’re honoured to have been selected to host, this event reflects months of collaboration within our community and the dedication of our coaches and parent volunteers, who have committed countless hours to planning and preparation,” said Simoi Cruickshank, Marketing and Media Chair. “Our goal is to deliver a first-class experience for these young athletes and create a lasting milestone for everyone involved, while highlighting the importance of local sports in building strong and healthy communities.”
Opening ceremonies are set for Friday, March 20, from 1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.,(CHANGED TO 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) a detailed schedule and team list will be announced following the completion of playoffs on March 9, 2026.
